Bitumen Emulsion CSS-1h Description

Bitumen Emulsion CSS-1h consists of three basic ingredients: bitumen, water, and an emulsifying agent. Based on specifications, it may contain other additives, such as stabilizers, coating improvers, anti-strips, or break control agents.

The size of the charge, or the zeta potential, affects stability; the larger the charge, the greater the repulsion, but as the aggregate is negatively charged, the higher the zeta potential, the more rapid the reaction.

Application

The Emulsion CSS-1h is mainly used in various applications, including tack coats, fog seals, dust control, and base stabilization.
CSS-1h is ideal for dust control on low-volume, unpaved roads and is typically diluted with water to enhance its penetration into the existing surface.

Properties

The Bitumen Emulsion CSS-1h is a water emulsion stabilized with a cationic surfactant. It is characterized by high viscosity and excellent resistance to the freeze-thaw cycle. Also, this grade of bitumen emulsion is eco-friendly, and it has an aqueous base, and secondly, they emit fewer fumes upon their application.

What is Different Between Emulsion CSS-1 and Emulsion CSS-1h?

Both products are cationic slow-setting (CSS) bitumen emulsions; they have some key differences in their properties and applications.

1. The First Difference:

The primary difference between the two emulsions is their residue content. Bitumen Emulsion CSS-1 has a minimum residue content of 57%, while Emulsion CSS-1h has a higher minimum residue content of 62%.

2. The Second Difference:

This higher residue content in Emulsion CSS-1h can provide better adhesion, cohesion, and overall performance compared to Emulsion CSS-1. Additionally, Emulsion CSS-1h has a higher viscosity range, typically between 40-150 centistokes (cSt), compared to Emulsion CSS-1, which has a lower viscosity range of 20-100 cSt.

3. The Third Difference:

Emulsion CSS-1h is more suitable for specialized applications, such as slurry seals, and microsurfacing, and as a binder in higher-performance cold mixes, where greater durability and resistance to traffic and environmental conditions are required.

In contrast, Emulsion CSS-1 is generally used for more common applications, such as tack coats, chip seals, and as a binder in basic cold mixes.
