Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is a black viscous liquid produced by mixing bitumen with a petroleum solvent. It is commonly used in road construction and maintenance projects, particularly in the base layer before placing the bituminous surface. Its low viscosity allows for better penetration into the road surface and improved adhesion between asphalt pavement layers.
Description Cutback Bitumen MC-70
Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is a type of bitumen that has been blended with a volatile solvent to make it more fluid at ambient temperatures. It is similar to Cutback Bitumen MC-30, but has a higher viscosity and is more commonly used in road construction and maintenance for applications such as surface treatments, fog seals, and slurry seals.
The “MC” in the name stands for Medium Curing, which refers to the rate at which the solvent evaporates from the bitumen after application. The number “70” indicates the viscosity of the cutback bitumen in seconds when measured using the Saybolt Furol viscosity test at a temperature of 25°C.
Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is made by mixing bitumen with a volatile solvent such as kerosene or diesel oil. The solvent helps to reduce the viscosity of the bitumen, making it easier to handle and apply at ambient temperatures. After application, the solvent evaporates from the bitumen, leaving behind a hard, durable surface that can withstand heavy traffic and weathering.
Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is typically used in areas with moderate to heavy traffic and where the climate is hot and dry. It can be applied using a variety of methods, including spray application, brush application, or squeegee application.
Cutback Bitumen MC- 70 can be exported to various regions in East Asia, such as China, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, and Cambodia. Additionally, it can also be exported to certain African countries, including Congo, Djibouti, and Rwanda.
Properties of Cutback Bitumen MC70
MC70 is blended to a low viscosity to ensure that it penetrates the top 10mm of the base with the aid of the cutter, whilst depositing a thin film of bitumen on the surface to provide adhesion between the base coarse and the new surfacing.
Application of Cutback MC 70
Cutback bitumen MC-70 is suitable for primer sealing and can also be used in the manufacturing of asphalt pre-mix. Cutback bitumen are used extensively in sprayed sealing applications, particularly in colder weather where they proved improved initial stone retention due to their lower viscosity. Typically, a single application of the appropriate cutback bitumen is sprayed onto the primed pavement onto which aggregate is laid.
The cutback asphalt MC-70 applying to waterproofing of surfaces, plug capillary voids, coat and bond loose mineral particles. Current common uses are in penetrating prime coats and in producing patching or stockpile mixtures. Cutback asphalt used in mixing with aggregate will usually contain an adhesion agent to assist in the coating of the aggregate surface.
Health, Safety and Environment of Cutback MC 70
Health, safety and environmental information are provided for this product in the Safety Data Sheet. This gives details of the potential hazards, precautions and First Aid measures. Attock Refinery Ltd will not accept liability if the product is used other than in the manner or with the precautions or for the purposes specified.
